Unconventional Washington DC Landmarks In a Charter Bus

April 12th, 2007

As one of the worlds most talked about cities, Washington D.C. has a lot to taste, see and experience. If you are traveling in a large group, I would suggest taking a charter bus to Washington DC. This will save money on renting a fleet of cars for your party and allow everyone to relax and not have to worry about finding your way in an unfamiliar place. I am the teacher of an 8th grade class in Springfield, Illinois and we called The BusBank for our Washington DC charter bus rental. Off the top of your head you could already name about a dozen attractions that a student group would visit in Washington DC. However, our group took the unconventional route and saw all the famous attractions first and made room to experience all of DC via our charter bus.

Who wants to stand in line with a large group at the Hard Rock when you could be enjoying a non-chain restaurant’s aura? If you enjoy trying something different, the Blues Alley is the place for dinner and music. The club is reminiscent of the old venues in the 1920’s. Blues Alley has had many great performers appear on stage. From Dizzy Gillespie, to Pat Metheny and Wynston Marsalis the club has become internationally showcased.

If you want to be a super tourist, there are a few sites that you can not miss seeing. The U.S. Botanic Garden is a plant museum come to life. A little bit of advice, have the charter bus pick you up after an hour, students attention span on plants is not very long. The Holocaust Memorial Museum is quite the sight. The museum exhibits a timeline starting from the Nazi rise to power in 1933 and up to the fall of the Third Reich in 1945. The operating hours are 10am-5:30, which will give you plenty of time to get some breakfast.

Despite all the dinning and sightseeing you will be enjoying, you need a place to rest your head. A great hotel with an extravagant location is the Phoenix Park Hotel. With no more than two blocks from the Capital and about a block from Union Station, you are in the middle of everything.

I must say the student’s favorite location on our unconventional tour was the International Spy Museum. It had a few wanting to watch the newest James Bond film on the charter bus ride home.  If you are visiting with your group make sure to taste, see and experience a variety of new things; and don’t fall into the tourist trap, take your Washington DC charter bus for a ride.

Paying respects–chartering a bus to Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia

February 13th, 2007

Resting on the bank of the famous Potomac River, Arlington, Virginia, is a great place to experience history and current events.  Located just minutes away from Washington D.C., Arlington is home to such key sites such as Arlington National Cemetery, the Drug Enforcement Agency Museum and the Pentagon.  Visiting Arlington is an off-the-beaten way to experience the American government in action.   However, chartering a bus to Arlington, Virginia is a way to make your trip even more flexible and accessible.

Taking a charter bus around Arlington is a wonderful and easy way to see the sites.  It also affords your group the capability to stay slightly further away from the very expensive metropolitan hotels to cut costs.  An Arlington charter bus rental also grants you the freedom to travel throughout the entire Washington D.C. metropolitan area at your convenience.
One of the most poignant spots in Arlington is the National Cemetery.  A beautiful tribute to our nation’s war heroes and history, Arlington National Cemetery is something that all visitors shouldn’t want to miss.  Designated in 1864, over 300 thousand people have been buried in the cemetery.  One area of the cemetery that is especially powerful during this time of war is the Tomb of the Unknowns.  Dedicated in 1921 as a burial site for an unidentified American soldier from WWI, the tomb has contained the remains of soldiers from WWI, WWII, the Korean War and the Vietnam War.  You can also attend a formal wreath laying ceremony at this site.
Your group won’t want to miss this powerful way to pay tribute to our unforgotten American heroes. Contact The BusBank for your next charter bus rental trip in Washington DC and Arlington, Virginia.
