Taking kids on a charter bus trip in Birmingham during the Holidays
February 28th, 2007After the trip to Disneyland, last holiday season, I told our large extended family that we needed a change of pace from going on the typical tourist spots for vacation. No doubt, the kids loved it but, a friend suggested renting a charter bus to Birmingham, the city of iron and steel. Although it didn’t sound like The Magic Kingdom, we found some brochures and called The BusBank for our Birmingham charter bus rental. What we found was a hidden gem for vacation travelers.
The first stop for the charter bus was, of course, the magnificent Vulcan Park. It was there that stands a statue of the Roman god of fire and forge! I told the kids that this statue has been standing guard over Birmingham since 1904 and my small daughter asked, “Can I shake his hand?”. We went up the observatory balcony and everyone just ooh-ed and aah-ed until the kids needed to eat.
While I personally wanted a taste of Birmingham’s Italian cuisine, I was vetoed by the kids and we ended up in Hamburger Heaven – but boy, was I surprised! I’d have to say that they just about serve the best hamburgers we have ever had on vacation. I fell in love with their cornballs and packed on a few pounds when we finally hopped back on to the charter bus. The whole family had loads to fill their tummies, trust me. And we even bought some for the charter bus driver, Stan. He was just as amazed as we were with the quality of the food.
Birmingham has a lot to offer if you travel via a charter bus and if that is what you intend to do when the next holiday season creeps up, then you have to head on to the Birmingham Children’s Theatre. There are many simplified versions of classic tales and events that will be played out at the theatre such as Snow White, and Little Red Riding Hood. You’ll have a tough time dragging them out of the theatre and back up the charter bus. Be sure to do the same as we did and call The BusBank for your Birmingham, Alabama charter bus needs, you will not regret it!
