September 28th, 2010

It’s never too early to begin scoping out the perfect resources for a dream wedding. June weddings may be months away, but now is the season to look for the perfect dress, baker, and reception decor.

And where better to look than New York?

If you’re looking for the perfect dress:

  1. Visit Kleinfelds (that HUGE store from Say Yes to the Dress!). Boasting the largest selection of designer wedding dresses in the world, Kleinfelds has been serving brides for over 60 years and is THE place to go to find the most current styles in wedding fashion. Both European and American designers are represented at the store, which is located in New York City.
  2. Looking for something vintage? Check out Resurrection or The Bridal Garden – both top notch retail stores known for vintage couture and overstock from top designers. These boutiques are also located in New York City.

If you’re looking for the perfect bakery:

  1. Check out Soutine Bakery. A New York gem, this little bakery receives rave reviews and is known for making sophisticated picturesque cakes.
  2. Visit Baked. New Yorkers rave about this bakery which is known for whimsical and colorful alternatives to traditionally styled cakes. Baked is also known for making fabulous cupcakes.
  3. Look into Cake Alchemy’s style of cakes. This New York bakery has been featured in Brides magazine’s “50 Most Beautiful Cakes” article and specializes in unique flavor blends.

If you’re looking for reception hall decor:

  1. Go to Props for Today – a warehouse offering authentic antique collections (Marie Antoinette, Early American, Roaring twenties, etc…) and contemporary selections.
  2. Check out Chuppah for hand painted custom silk wedding canopies. Chuppah’s silk canopies are created by renowned museum artist Corinne Soikin Strauss.

Charter Bus Austin – The Music Scene

September 16th, 2010

Most people think of Nashville when they think of a national “music capitol”. But Austin, Texas is right up there with “Music City U.S.A.” The Texas city has a unique flavor of music and boasts the best live performances in the country. Many up-and-coming musicians choose Austin as their stomping grounds and many nationally known artists regularly visit.

Not sure if the Austin music scene is worth checking out? Consider the following must-see attractions:

1. Austin City Limits Music Festival. From October 8-10, the annual ACL Festival hosts artists such as The Strokes, Muse, M.I.A., Switchfoot, Norah Jones, and The Eagles (plus over 100 more acts). Many artists also play at local venues for aftershows. Austin City Limits is a video recording venue that hosts live recordings of popular music acts. Check out ACL’s blog for ticket info for taped events (which air on PBS).

2. The Austin Music Hall. Newly renovated, the hall holds over 4,000 in general admission and features well-known artists such as Sarah Mclachlan, Pixies, and Deadmaus. Even with its huge capacity, the hall is known for having packed crowds (over 2000 people once had to be turned away from a Chris Tomlin recording event). Make sure to add the Austin Music Hall to your itinerary (just order your tickets in advance).

3. Waterloo Records and Video Store. Voted the best independent record store in the country, Waterloo hosts live in-store shows featuring both local and nationally-known artists. The store is considered somewhat of an Austin icon and has some of the most knowledgeable staff and best customer service around.

The BusBank’s Charter Bus Austin account executives can help you plan you trip. There’s a reason that Austin’s nickname is “The Live Music Capitol of the World”. Find out for yourself!

The Top 5 Engaging Back To School Field Trips – In 3 Easy Steps

September 13th, 2010

It’s gotta be educational and exciting. It can’t take too long, but it has to take long enough that you aren’t left trying to entertain a massive group of bored kids. That’s right, the Back to School Field Trip must be expertly planned. All your wits must be employed so that the kids, chaperones, parents, (and YOU) aren’t left in tears.

Step One:

Consider one of the following Back to School Field Trips. Tested and proven effective, these unique trips are wayyy better then going to the zoo. Again.

1.  Visit an organic farm. Organic produce is the wave of the future. Kids can learn about demand and supply, nutrition, and that vegetables don’t really come in cans.

2. Go to a garage. By visiting a professional auto repair shop, kids can be taught handy lessons about assembly, oil changes, fixing flats, and changing tires.

3. Check out a stock exchange. Classroom lessons about economics can be boring. Reality hits home when kids can view the process of trading.

4. Investigate a science museum. If you live near Chicagoland – The Museum of Science and Industry. Closer to New York? Go to the New York Hall of Science. Texans, check out the Houston Museum of Natural Science.

5. Attend a youth theater performance. Most major cities have children’s theaters and there’s no better way for kids to learn about the performing arts than to experience them. It’s doubly inspiring for them to see young performers close to their own age.

Step Two:

Contact The BusBank for transportation. Academic Groups and Events account executives will lift the grueling burden of transportation stress from your weary shoulders.

Step Three:

Inhale. Exhale. The kids? Entertained. Parents? Thrilled. And you didn’t have to pull your hair out.
