Helping Para – Athletes travel to this year’s World Equestrian Games
August 30th, 2010This year the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games will be taking place in the United States for the first time since the beginning of the tradition. As another first this year, Para-Equestrian events will be part of the FEI games and The BusBank is proud to be providing event transportation for these talented athletes.
The games will be taking place in Lexington, Kentucky from September 25 – October 10 and consist of the world championships for eight of the top equestrian sports. The featured eight sports include the following: Dressage, Driving, Endurance, Eventing, Jumping, Para Dressage, Reining and Vaulting. Each of these sporting events consists of high levels of technique, difficulty and discipline required by the trainer and horse.
Para-Equestrian Sports, as defined by the International Paralympic Equestrian Committee (IPEC), is intended to provide competition and equal opportunities for athletes with a disability. In doing so, Para-Equestrian athletes are able to achieve personal growth and compete in their chosen equestrian disciplines.
The very first Equestrian World Games took place in Stockholm in 1990 and hosted only six competing sports. Since then, the World Games have been hosted in each previous World Champion’s native country every 4 years. Previous years locations include Netherlands, Italy, Spain and Germany. This year the games will be leaving Europe for the very first time and the newest discipline, Para Dressage, will be seen first in Kentucky.
“Governor Fletcher made it very clear that he wanted the 2010 Games in Kentucky to be the best ever and to achieve things that have never happened before in this competition,” said Rob Hinkle, Chief Administrative Officer for the World Games 2010 Foundation, the group planning the 2010 FEI Games™ in Kentucky, and it seems he will succeed in doing so! With three new firsts, this year’s World Equestrian Games are not to be missed.
